Gates of the Arctic

Characteristics in a Major Terrestrial Biome

The Gates of the Arctic is a tundra biome. Most of the park is made up of the central and eastern Brooks Range mountains. The park experiences very short summers, from June to August, while the winters range from September to May. This results in the organisms having to adapt to the weather conditions. Also, the climate can have organisms distributed in areas where the weather isn’t severe in the winter seasons. Although there are many mountains in the park, the organisms can find a home in the plainlands where the weather doesn’t get too cold.
